Rei-ki is a Japanese word, which refers to the active "life force" of the universe. For a long time it has been acknowledged by many eastern and ethnic cultures, that the universe is not just empty space but that it is filled with a dynamic, conscious energy. Names given to this energy include "Chi" in China, "Ki" in Japan, and "Prana" in India and Tibet.
Throughout history, there have been individuals who have had the ability to channel extra amounts of this energy through their hands to those in need. Often these people were known as natural or spiritual healers, who claimed that it was not they who healed but the result of the healing life force that flowed through their hands.
Until recently, it appeared that only those born with this particular gift were able to convey this energy to any degree, however, in the early 1900s, a Japanese man named Mikao Usui, was inspired to find a way to work with healing energy and through a series of personal experiences, discovered how to do that.
He applied these practices to his patients with great success, and taught other committed people to do the same. This began “Usui Shiki Ryoho” - the Usui System of Reiki Healing.
The word "Reiki" is now commonly used to refer to Mikao Usui's System of Reiki Healing, by the channelling of the Universal Life Energy through the hands. Reiki helps to heal mind, body and spirit, by accelerating the body's own ability to heal itself physically and by opening the mind to the emotional and mental causes of disease and pain.
Roger Weston was initiated as a Reiki Master in Jan 1993. Over the following years, he participated in six of the "Master Intensives" conducted by Phyllis Furumoto (Reiki World Leader). In 2015, he arranged and facilitated Paul Mitchell’s programs in Perth. (Paul is ‘Head of Discipline’ in the Usui System).
Most recently, he attended the first level of the Japanese form of Reiki and has since delighted in the further exploration of this simple but amazing practice.
He is happily married to Toni, and shares his life with her and his dog Robbie, living near the beach at Eagle Bay, WA.
His teachers' lineage proceeds from Mikao Usui, Chujiro Hayashi, Hawayo Takata, Wanja Twan and Greg Williamson.
In 2005, he developed two Nationally Accredited and Nationally Recognised, Reiki courses. One, which corresponded to the first level of Reiki, and the other to assist public/professional Reiki practitioners. These two courses established Australian industry standards and a guaranteed level of competency and practice.
In 2017, the government re-accreditation fee was increased from $1000 to $9000, so it was no longer practical to continue with this formal accreditation, however, the exact same courses are being presented and are widely recognised and acknowledged throughout Australia.
Roger is a Foundation Member of the ‘Reiki Association (WA) Inc.’, a West Australian based, professional organisation, actively promoting excellence in all levels of Reiki practice.
Over the years, he has taught classes throughout Western Australia, in the Eastern states and overseas in India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Indonesia.
